DAVID J. MONGIARDO, age 75, of Canton, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2013, in the Bethany Nursing Home following a brief illness. Born in Canton to the late Frank and Veneranda (Nenni) Mongiardo on July 25, 1938. He was a graduate of Timken Vocational High School, served in the Army stationed in Germany and retired from the Timken Company after 30 years of employment. He is a member of the St. Andrea Society. He was a kind and caring man and dearly loved by his family and friends. “Uncle Dave” often sat back at gatherings and just observed. But when one on one he would talk at length about things that interested him including his cat Kelly, East Canton High School sports and all the children he loved in his family and extended family. David and his mother shared the family home and he was her primary caregiver when she was ill in her final years and lovingly attended to her every need. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by brothers-in-law Nick Changet, Jr. and Dr. Isidore B. Codispoti. He is survived by sisters Marianne Changet and Josephine M. Codispoti and brother Francis V. (Margie) Mongiardo. Nieces and nephews: Sandra (Richard) Stucky, Nick (Anita) Changet, III, Jeffrey (Michele) Mongiardo, Frank T. (Julie) Mongiardo, Joan (Paul) D'Ambrosio, and Jim Codispoti. Also by many great and great-great nieces and nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his extended family and dear friends Bill and Diana Smith and their children, Godchild Jennifer and Jerry Adams and Billy and Amy Smith and their families. The family extends it's gratitude to the caring staff and volunteers at the Bethany Nursing Home, Crossroads Hospice and to his roommate at Bethany, Billy, for keeping a watchful eye. Thanks also to his neighbors for their acts of kindness. Calling hours will be on Monday from 6 to 8 pm at the Rossi Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 am at St. Benedict Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Benson Okpara, celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
