Harry Papatheodorou, age 61, passed away suddenly and peacefully at home on November 22, 2013 after an extended illness with his family at his side. Harry was born on February 25, 1952 in Canton, Ohio and graduated from McKinley High School in 1970. He attended The Ohio State University and subsequently received his Bachelors of Education from Kent State University. He later completed a Masters in Education – Sports Administration from Ashland University. Harry taught for 32 years in the Canton City School system where he touched many young lives through both his teaching and various coaching positions. Mr. P began his career at Hartford Junior High where he taught math. He later taught at Crenshaw Junior High before taking over the Occupational Work Adjustment (OWA) program at Timken High School. Countless former students and players always stopped to talk to Mr. P whenever they saw him.
His coaching experience included McKinley High School: Assistant Football Coach and Assistant Girls Basketball Coach. Timken High School: Head Golf Coach, Head Baseball Coach, Assistant Basketball Coach. Crenshaw Junior High: Athletic Director, Head Boys Basketball Coach. Hartford Junior High: Head Football Coach, Head Basketball Coach. Harry also spent numerous hours coaching his children in their early sports careers including Holly Hills baseball, CYO basketball, GOYA basketball and OLOP boys and girls basketball. Harry was a member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church. He was honored to be inducted into the Greater Stark County Fumbleball Hall of Fame in 2009. Harry was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Indians. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband and a loving and caring father. His wit and generous heart will be missed by his family, friends, and all those that he touched. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothea Papatheodorou, by his beloved sister, Mary Imely and his father-in-law Joseph Marulli. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Christine (Marulli), his son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Anne- Marie, his daughter, Kara, his sister Olga (Mike) Guistino, and brother-in-law, Larry Imely. He is also survived by mother-in-law Mary Jane Marulli, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Jo and Fred Francis, Joe and Sara Marulli, Brenda Marulli, and John Marulli as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Asfoura, Dr. Dopirak and Dr. Fayen for their care. The funeral service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at St. Haralambos with Father Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 from 4 – 8 pm at Rossi Funeral Home in Canton and one hour before the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
