Janice (Zollars) Contie

Janice Contie passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014 in Canton, Ohio. The only child of Marguerite and Albert Zollars, she was born December 16, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio. Janice graduated in 1939 from McKinley High School and worked twelve years as a secretary at First National Bank in Canton. She married Leroy J. Contie, Jr. in 1953 and then became a homemaker and later a stay-at-home mom. She and Leroy, who was later appointed judge for the US 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, shared 47 happy years of marriage. Janice was a member of the Canton Women’s Club, Walsh University Women’s Board, and Brookside Country Club. She and her daughter Ann were also recently inducted into the Daughters of the American Revolution. Janice was preceded in death by her husband Leroy who died in 2001 as well as her parents Marguerite and Albert Zollars. She is survived by her son Leroy J. Contie III and his wife Shelly Contie of Canton as well as her daughter Ann Contie Benson and her husband Hugh Benson of Norman, Oklahoma. Janice is also survived by her grandsons Thomas Contie Benson and Michael Contie Benson, both of Norman, Oklahoma. The family extends gratitude to Janice’s loving caregivers Angelica Maghiar and Lorie Millsap. Overwhelming thanks is also extended to the wonderful staff at The Inn at Belden Village as well as to Crossroads Hospice. Calling hours will be at Rossi Funeral Home in Canton 5-7 PM on Friday, March 21. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Church in Canton at 10 AM on Saturday, March 22 with viewing one hour prior to service. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in the Contie family plot. Memorial donations may be made to The University of Akron Foundation (The Honorable Leroy J.
