Angeline (Kreareas) Geniatakis

Angeline (Kreareas) Geniatakis, age 95, of Canton, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017. She was born to the late Nicholas and Vasiliki (Bessie Columbanis) Kreareas on August 26, 1922 in Pergamos, Greece. Angeline attended Timken Vocational High School, and became a self-employed beautician. She was a member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church, the Silver Liners and the Philoptochos Society, where she was honored with the Woman of Distinction award in 2014. Along with her parents, Angeline was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Minos "Nick" Geniatakis on October 17, 2017; siblings Sam (Mary Karasarides) Kreareas, Pam Kreareas, and George Kreareas on October 24, 2017; son-in-law Jordan Kalaitsides; grandson Jason Eric Kalaitsides; and nephew Peter Kreareas. She is survived by her children Bess (Myron) Fritz, Irene Kalaitsides, Peter (Alexandra Pantelidis) Geniatakis and Stephanie (Bill) Withers; nine grandchildren Ian Maney, Jennifer (Robyn) Fritz, Dustin (Breanne) Fritz, Jordan (Maria) Kalaitsides, Alexander Kalaitsides, Alethea (Jason) Swiecicki, Demetrios (Jennifer) Geniatakis, Eftihia Geniatakis and Nicholas Withers. Also survived by seven great-grandchildren Alexander and Christian Maney, Jayden and Jorden Fritz, Lazarus and Soleil Swiecicki and Greyson Geniatakis; sisters-in-law Phanoula Kreareas and Emily Genis; nephews and nieces William (Rick) Kreareas, Sophie (James) Sheetz, Nikki Rossetti and Christopher (Heather) Kreareas; many loving nephews and nieces, and their children. Angie was known for her delicious homemade Greek dishes including pastitsio and dolmathes, just to name a few, and her delectable Greek pastries. She really enjoyed sharing her culinary knowledge and recipes with everyone. She volunteered for charities and loved being involved with her beloved church of St. Haralambos. For many years she volunteered being in charge of the Loukoumathes booth making her homemade recipe which produced the mouth-watering delicacies and also before the festival helping to make delicious pastries. Angie enjoyed volunteering on the catering committee for many years and all of the church organizations. For her church and family one never had to ask for help, she was there. In 1923, at the age of 5 months, Angie emigrated from Greece to Ellis Island with her parents, being blessed to be alive surviving the Greco-Turkish War. From there, her family started their new life in Canton. As a devout Christian family, her father Nicholas was a board member at St Haralambos during the 1930's where their whole family was involved working hard in Christ's name to keep His church active for future generations. And indeed it did, where Angie married her loving husband Minos on February 8, 1942. They both raised their children in the church and instilled the same values. Life for their family was never about vacationing or riches in life, it was all about family and integrity. Angie was born with the given name of "Aglaia" which in Greek means "splendor and beauty." She was a beautiful person physically, but more importantly Angie was blessed with a beautiful soul. She deeply loved her church and greatly loved and respected the many generations of families and friends she knew there. Angie was a very loving, giving, selfless, and humble person. She was the best mother, yiayia (grandmother) and thea (aunt) anyone could have. She was loved very much and will be greatly missed. She unknowingly leaves behind a very blessed gift, her wonderful and cherished legacy for her family to carry-on for future generations. Family and friends will be received at the Rossi Family Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 to 5 pm. Trisagion services will begin at 5 pm. Another hour of calling hours will be held Monday morning at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church from 10 to 11 am. Funeral services will start at 11 am., with Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Louis Shaheen and Dr. Raza Kahn for their many years of compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church or to the Philoptochos Society.
