Alexander E. Armatas, age 97 of North Canton, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014 after a brief illness. Born in Fterno, Lefkada, Greece to the late Efstathios and Maria (Sklerou) Armatas he was also preceded in death by a sister, Mavreta, and his brothers Vasili, Nikos and Gerasimos. He was a former member of AHEPA and a devoted parishioner of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church since 1952. He retired from the Timken Company in 1982 after 26 years of service as a bearing polisher in Department 78 of the Canton Bearing Plant. Survived by his wife of 56 years Denise (Gligoris) Armatas, son Steve Armatas of North Canton, brothers Costas Armatas of Athens, Greece, Dimitrios (Helen) Armatas of North Canton, sister Vasilo Sklavenitis of Canton and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm at the Rossi Family Funeral Home, Trisagion Services will be held at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am Wednesday at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church.
