Alice Louise Martinez (née Moorehouse) of Canton, age 94, died on July 1, 2025. Alice was born Aug. 17, 1930, to James and Matilda (Reigel) Moorehouse at her grandparents' home in Monaca, PA. Her family moved to Canton in the mid-1930s, but she and her siblings spent many happy childhood summers in Monaca with their beloved Uncle Bill and Aunt Florence Moorehouse. She graduated from Canton Lincoln High School in 1948, after which she worked at the iconic Onesto Hotel in downtown Canton. She stopped working to raise her children and returned to the workforce later in life as an employee of KeyBank, where she remained until retirement.

She is survived by her children Leslie Martinez (Tiburon, CA), Marty Martinez (Deerfield Beach, FL) and Lisa Martinez (Kent, OH); grandson Austin Martinez (Miami, FL); sister Donna Brandenburg (Mansfield, OH); one niece and two nephews; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother John Moorehouse; sister-in-law Elvera Moorehouse; and brother-in-law Murray (Breeze) Brandenburg, Jr.

Alice was an independent and self-sufficient woman with a great sense of humor. She loved college sports, especially Ohio State football, and always had her NCAA March Madness bracket handy during the annual basketball tournament. She was a voracious reader, a master of puzzles and enjoyed working outdoors taking care of her house and property well into her 80s. She loved dogs, remembering with fondness her collection of canines over the decades, including Satchel, Francie, Greta, Molly, Daffy, Sam and Heidi. Alice enjoyed traveling to visit her children, especially the multiple trips she took to South Florida in the winter and adventures along the coast of California. Her greatest pride and sense of accomplishment came from raising her three children, of whom she was very proud.

Family and friends will be received at the Rossi Family Funeral Home on Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home at 1 p.m., with Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Interment to follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Stark County Humane Society.
