Andy Ondo, age 93 of Canton, passed away Thursday morning. Born in Canton to the late John Sr. and Elizabeth Ondo, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of their children Pierina Ondo, second wife of 23 years Helen Ondo, sister Mary Ondo, brothers John, George, Joseph and Michael Ondo. A graduate of McKinley High School, Andy was a state swimming champ. He was retired from the Stark County Sheriff's Department in 1979 with over 30 years, working his way up to detective. In 1967 he was honored as Deputy of the Year. Andy enjoyed golfing and trips to Florida. He was an Army veteran of WW II. Survived by his children Andrew Ondo, Darrell (Tammy) Ondo, Denise "Neatzie" Ondo and companion Barry Girard, Michael (Rebecca) Ondo, grandchildren Christopher (Amber) Garcia, Joshua (Danielle) Ondo, Jennifer Ondo, Angela (Kenny) Glick, Wendy (Ondo) Harter, great-grandchildren Karis and Zayden Garcia. Respecting Andy's wishes there will be no calling hours or service. Cremation has taken place. The family requests donations can be made to his granddaughter at any Consumer National Bank to the Wendy Ondo (Harter) Charitable Fund toward medical expenses due to pancreatic cancer. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the employees at the Inn at Belden Village and Crossroads Hospice.
