IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Angeline (Nachies)
Creekus
June 4, 1924 – October 22, 2014
Angeline "Angie" Creekus (Nachies), 90, of Canton, passed away October 22, 2014.
She was born in Canton on June 4, 1924. She graduated from Timken Vocational High School in 1942, after receiving her beautician's license in 1941. She worked for twenty years alongside her sister at their father's business, The Ideal Beauty Shop, which was located in the former Kresge Arcade Market in downtown Canton. In 1968 her dream of becoming a teacher came true when she accepted the cosmetology teaching position at Oakwood High School for the junior class program, where she later retired from GlenOak in 1989. She once said in an interview for a school newspaper that "Teaching has been my first love because I enjoyed sharing what I have learned through the years with my students."
Angie was a long-time active member of Saint Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church in Canton, where she enjoyed singing in the church choir for more than 65 years. She also enjoyed being part of many church activities, including the Cretan Club, Philoptochos Society, and Silver Liners. She loved telling stories about her trips to Greece, growing up in Canton with her sister, and the early days of her career working with her dad. She loved her children very much and always enjoyed being a YiaYia to her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Christopher G. Creekus, along with her parents, Harry and Harriett Nachies. She is survived by her sister, Athena Lionas of Novi, Michigan, her son Emanuel (Flora) Creekus of Copley, her daughter Christine Wolf (Creekus) of North Canton, and her grandchildren, Stephanie (James) Sakel of Canton, Diana (Dennis) Leonard of Reynoldsburg, Christopher Wolf of Mayfield Heights, Ruth Creekus of Copley, and one great-granddaughter, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, whom all loved her dearly. Calling hours will be held Sunday, October 26 from 2-4pm at The Rossi Family Funeral Home with Trisagion Services to be held at 3:30 pm. Funeral services will begin Monday at 11am at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church, with burial following at Forest Hill Cemetery, Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating.
