Obituary

Anna "Ann" H. (Hadjian) Economos age 88 of Canton, passed away suddenly Monday, December 18, 2017 at Aultman Hospital. Born in Canton to the late Haralambos and Haricklia (Hadjipanayiotou) Hadjian, she was also preceded in death by her brother John Hadjian, sister Mary Anastas and brother-in-law Sam Anastas. Ann was a 1946 graduate of the Timken Vocational High School secretarial program. Immediately after high school, she began working for The Timken Roller Bearing Company in the secretarial pool, then was promoted to executive secretary. She worked for William E. Umstattd, Chairman of the Board, for 12 years. In 1974, she was transferred to the position of Dividend and Transfer Clerk. She was then promoted to Manager Shareholder Relations until her retirement in 1992, after 46 years and 2 months of service. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1988 from Walsh University. Ann was voted Miss Stark County for the Sesquicentennial in 1955. That experience sparked her passion for community service. She served as a volunteer on the Canton Chamber of Commerce Education, City/County Affairs and Annual Dinner Committees and on the Mayor's Breakfast and Game Day Luncheon Hall of Fame Festival committees for more than 30 years. Ann was a confident woman who was fiercely proud of her Greek heritage. She served as Secretary for the Greek Orthodox Youth of America and worked diligently to achieve recognition of the Eastern Orthodox faith as the fourth major religion in the United States. Ann was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church where she taught Sunday School for more than 50 years. She was one of five parishioners who initiated the Grecian Festival in 1976. She served as Festival co-chairperson and chairperson and coordinated Festival publicity for two decades. Ann received the Women of the Year award with her sister Mary in 2012 from the Holy Trinity church community. As a single mother, Ann worked diligently to provide for her two children ensuring they obtained bachelor's and graduate degrees and afforded them many opportunities that enriched their lives. Her children and grandchildren brought her the greatest joy. The family would like to thank Dr. Steven Weaver for his expert medical care and the nurses and therapists from Advantage Home Health Services. Our gratitude is extended to Karen, Ann's personal caregiver who became a true friend and brought smiles to Ann's face everyday. Ann is survived by her son Emmanuel H.
