Obituary

Armando Prendes, known by all who loved him as Fatty, died Saturday September Ninth surrounded by his adoring family. Fatty was 90 years young and the beloved husband of Ida Mae Schwall for 68 years. Fatty was the proud father of three sons, Stephen (Glenna), Raymond (Nancy) and Robert (Deb) and the instigator of much fun as Abuelo to his six grandchildren, Jennifer Moak (Will), Nicole Cleland (Luke), Stephen Prendes (Rejina), Brandon Prendes (Bethany), Matthew Prendes (Katie), Mark Prendes (Kate) and great-grandfather (Abuelino) to ten admiring little ones, Chloe Miller, Lucy Claire Cleland, Grant Fisher Prendes, Michael Armando Prendes, Jude Francisco Cleland, Gavin Armando Prendes, Avery Jane Prendes, Theodore Armando Prendes, Ryan Lee Prendes and Collette Rae Prendes. Fatty is survived by his dear sister Amor Guinaldo (Steve) and many loving step grand-children, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Abelino Garcia Prendes and Anita (Bueno) Prendes, his sister Nieves and his beautiful great granddaughter Dorothy Carolyn Prendes. Fatty was raised as a proud first generation Spanish American in the NE section of Canton. He graduated in 1945 from Timken High School and immediately joined the Navy where he served our country as Seaman First Class in Okinawa. He was a long standing member of the Spanish American Club, the American Legion, the VFW and the Eagles Club. Fatty was a USPS Mail Carrier for thirty years. Fatty loved all sports and played many. He was a member of a travel soccer team and was an accomplished golfer. Fatty was inducted into the Canton Amateur Hall of Fame for Fumbleball, Softball and Basketball. He regularly attended the McKinley/Massillon football games and cheered with gusto for his favorite players. Fatty will best be remembered for his kind heart and his effervescent sense of fun and humor. He was never without the twinkle in his eye which meant mischief and a good laugh were at hand. He never left a room without making a friend. Fatty was a loyal and faithful man to his wife, his family, his friends, his heritage and his country. Visitation will be held at Rossi Family Funeral Home at 730 30 th St-NW, Canton, Ohio 44709 on Tuesday September 12 From 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at Rossi Funeral Home at 10:00 am Wednesday September 13 th and will be immediately followed by the burial at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
