IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Jean
Meola
January 9, 1951 – February 11, 2025
Barbara Jean Meola was reunited with her parents at heaven's door on February 11, 2025. Born on January 9, 1951, Barbara was the middle daughter of Frank and Rose Meola. Barbara was limited in what she could do for herself. Her devoted parents took care of her every need in their home for 40 years. Because of her special needs and vulnerabilities, those who cared for her day after day showed us the true meaning of love and dedication. They were her warriors. Her sister Linda was often her voice, as well as a constant source of love and support throughout her life.
Barbara was limited in some ways, though she excelled in others. She accepted and loved everyone she came in contact with without condition. She had a caring heart, and because of this, she was a constant companion to her younger sister Mary, who also had special needs. As she worked hard to overcome her challenges, she inspired her nieces, Beth, Lisa and Vicki, and nephew Frank, to use their gifts and strengths to the best of their abilities.
Years ago, Barbara attended the Stark County Workshop and enjoyed classes under the supervision of the extraordinary Tammy Smith. When her parents aged, she went to live at Hartville Meadows Intermediate Care Facility. Generous with her hugs and quick to make others laugh with her sense of humor, Barb quickly became endeared to the staff. Barb had a gift in her smile – and people always walked away from her with a smile on their face, too. At Hartville, she inspired a legion of heroes, led by their 'hero in chief' Roxanne. There are many many heroes who helped care for Barb, but we especially want to thank her angels – Angie, Emily, Shekinah, Sharon, Brenda, Kathy, and Renee – who loved and cared for Barb as if she were their own. You are the best of the best. You give each day asking nothing in return from those you care for. The family would also like to thank the entire staff at Hartville Meadows, who cared for Barb not just with their hands, but with their hearts.
Barb loved celebrating birthdays and holidays, and her absolute favorite was Halloween - no matter what time of year it was. She also enjoyed long car rides, listening to music, doing puzzles, and attending church services. Those who knew Barb well know she loved to eat! Some of her favorites were her private stashes of M&Ms, chips, and coke. We will always remember her joyous laugh and smile when we hear "Frosty the Snowman" - also, no matter what time of year it was - and "Who Let the Dogs Out", two of Barb's all-time favorites. Barb was a blessing from above. We celebrate the lessons she taught us. She was a gift. Barbara is preceded in death by her sister Mary Anne, and survived by sister and brother-in-law, Linda Wittman and Frank (Bud) Wittman of Massillon. She is also survived by her nieces and nephew, as well as many great-nieces and nephews.
Private graveside service to be held with Father Tom Cebula officiating. Interment at Calvary Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
A celebration of Barbara Jean Meola's life will be held at Saint Michael's Catholic Church on Friday, September 5. The family will receive condolences from 10 AM to 11 AM. Mass will be offered at 11 AM. If you are unable to attend, please remember Barb in your prayers on that day. Thank you to the many who have paid their respects to Barb in numerous ways since her passing on February 11, 2025. She was a blessing from above. We celebrate the lessons she taught us. She was a gift.
