Brother Guy Roddy
Guy Roddy was born to Wallace and Anna (Walsh) Roddy on Sept. 8, 1939 in Burlington. VT, and died on January 10, 2015 in Canton after a brief illness. He entered the formation center of the Brothers of Christian Instruction in Alfred, ME after two years at Mount Assumption Institute, Plattsburgh, NY. On completing high school, he became a member of the congregation as a novice on August 15, 1958. His profession of perpetual vows took place in August, 1964. Br. Roddy was a lifelong learner. He taught several years after earning his B.A. from Walsh University in 1965. Over years he earned an MA in Catechetical Theology from Manhattan College ('68), an M.A. in Pastoral Counseling from Emmanuel College ('82) an M.S. in Administration from University of Notre Dame ('89) and a D.Ministry in Church Administration from the Graduate Theological Foundation, IN ('92). Br. Roddy accepted a variety of assignments. His early teaching assignments were at the high school level in Detroit, MI and Alfred, ME and later at Walsh University as an Assistant Professor of Theology D. For five years was Religious Education Coordinator, first at St. Joan of Arc Parish and then at Plattsburgh, NY. He enjoyed seven years as a high school guidance counselor in New York State, and in Massachusetts. In 1989, he returned to Plattsburgh to serve for six years as Business Manager for Seton Catholic H.S. before accepting a teaching position at Wadhams Hall Seminary in Ogdensburg until its closing in 2002. After a brief stint as a missionary in the Philippines, he returned to teaching theology at Walsh University where he also served as local superior of the Brothers' community. He strove to live a quality life as a religious Brother, preparing himself for several years in formation work with young religious. He was a founding member of the National Conference of Religious Brothers (NARB). He on served on the Board of Directors of Walsh University in and of St. Joseph Health Care Center.At the time of his death He was assistant to the superior of the Notre Dame Province. He is survived by his three siblings, John and Mary of Orlando, FL and Ellen Peloubet ofTrenton, NJ. He will be sorely by members of his family and by his fellow Brothers who remain grateful for his years of genuine enthusiasm for his religious vocation. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Brothers' Retirement Fund can be sent in his memory to Br. Jerome Lessard, PO Box 159, Alfred, ME 04002. Funeral services will be held at 10.a.m. on Monday, January 19 in the Chapel of Our Lady of Perpetual Help on the campus of Walsh University, No. Canton, OH. Burial will take place in the Brothers' cemetery in Alfred, Maine.
