Carmen (Carm) (Pomp) Cerreta

Age 87 of North Canton, passed away on Saturday September 27, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family following a prolonged battle with Parkinson's disease. Those who know him warmly remember his welcome smile, his kind hearted generosity, his loyalty, patriotism and his genuine interested in people. Born in Canton, Ohio son to the late Joseph and Dorina Cerreta. He was a 1945 graduate of McKinley High School. After serving in the U.S. Navy he attended and graduated from Bowling Green University on the GI Bill. He was a teacher and coached for 8 years in the Canton Public School system at Hartford School, Lincoln High School, and Cedar School. During the same time he signed on and became the youngest agent licensed by The Nationwide Insurance Company (1950-2006) where he extended his professional career for 61 years as agent, special agent, and District Sales Manager, and became the longest running Nationwide Insurance agent in its history, mainly out of his Insurance office on State St. in Alliance, Ohio. Carm was also involved in Stark County Board of Realtors, Alliance Board of Realtors (Past President), Ohio Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, and International Appraisal Association. Carm served as a state Certified Property Appraiser for the Stark County Sheriff (Civil Division) and Stark County Clerk of Courts for 25 years. He was a past member of the Executive Committee-Stark County Democratic Party. Carm was involved in many civic and charitable associations including Canton Ex-Newsboys Association (Lifetime Member), Habitat for Humanity, Charter member and past President Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce, North Canton Chamber of Commerce, St Anthony's Church, St Michaels Church, North Canton Elks (Lifetime Member), Eagles, Moose Lodge, Canton Council Knights of Columbus. Carm supported and coached in many North Canton youth athletics programs including the North Canton Little League Baseball and Softball programs. He was a member of the North Canton Sideliners. For over 30 years Carm served as Chairman of the North Canton Hoover Football "Meet the Team Night" sponsored by the North Canton Elks. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Mildred (Micki) Cerreta in 2006; brother Lewis Cerreta of Canton. He is survived by his three children, Jay (Dawn) Cerreta of Pittsburgh,PA; Mark (Lauri) Cerreta of North Canton, Ohio; Becky (Mark) Taylor of North Canton, Ohio. Six grandchildren; Sam (Andrea) Cerreta of Scottsdale AZ; Anna (Chad) Barson of North Canton, Ohio; Joe Cerreta of West Chester, PA; Ben, Christine and Jonnie Taylor of North Canton, Ohio; brother Anthony (Donna) Cerreta of Suwanee, GA., sister Gloria Duggan of Santa Monica, CA; Sister-in-law Jenny Cerreta of Canton, Ohio. Carmen, Carm, Pomp, CP, Dad, Pop, Grandpa, Friend, was a good man. Thank you God for his time on this earth. He will be missed. Burial will follow at North Canton Cemetery in North Canton.
