Carol Ann Gonzalez, age 67, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018, at Canterbury Villa following a period of declining health. Carol was born in Mercy Hospital in Canton, OH on July 26, 1950 to Manuel "Pete" and Alice Gonzalez. Carol attended special classes at Allen School until they eventually formed the CRC. Carol was one of the original adults who were served by what is now the Stark County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Carol's parents were very active on the first Parents Council. She resided at St John's Villa in Carrollton, OH for 24 years. Carol was very active in the Villa, where she sang in their choir and worked in their wood shop. In 1994, Carol returned to the Stark County Board of DD, where she worked on contract floor; then transferred to the Seniors Department, where she entertained her specialists with her special wit and humor and endearing laugh. Carol loved watching sports, listening to music and watching the news. Most of all, she loved her family. She loved family gatherings and holidays. Preceded in death were her parents, her beloved "Daddy-O" Manuel "Pete" Gonzalez and her mother, Alice. She is survived by her sister, Lisa of Louisville, her brothers, Ray (Carmela) of Canton, and Jimmy of North Canton; her nephews Michael (Jenn) Gonzalez, Alex Gonzalez; her nieces Maria (John) Streb, and Lauren (Kevin) Jankowski; as well as her great nieces and nephews, Ava, Lila and Trey Streb, Rocco and Natalia Gonzalez, Nina Jankowski, and new baby on way as well as a host of cousins; and her beloved pet bird, Pepe. Carol was a ray of sunshine that touched many lives during her lifetime. A special thanks to the staff at Canterbury Villa for their loving care of her, as well as Stark DD specialists Lynn Royer, Ashley Dornhecker, Sue Moffatt and others at Cohen Joliet. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Rossi Family Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
