Thompson, Jr.
September 23, 1930 – November 29, 2024
Charles T. Thompson, Jr. age 94 of Canton, passed away on the evening of Friday, November 29, 2024. He was born in Alliance, Ohio on September 23, 1930 to the late Charles T. Thompson, Sr. and Gertrude (Thompson) Snyder. Charles spent most of his life in Hanoverton, Ohio, and recently moved to Canton four years ago. He retired in 1992 from PCC Air Foils, after 33 years of employment.
Charles was an active member of Hanoverton Christian Church, where he served as an Elder and Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. He was a charter member of both the North Country Trail Association and the Hanover Township Historical Society, and served as a Boy Scout Leader. A man of many hobbies, he was also charter member of the NOBPA and he flew his own hot air balloon for 14 years. He later took up sailing and enjoyed traveling the world; but above all, he loved spending time with his family.
Along with his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Morrow. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 ½ years, Frances (Gallagher) Thompson; children Laura (Scott) Berkeley, of Canton, Bill (Pat) Thompson of Ponte Vedra, FL, and Charles "Thom" (Nancy) Thompson III of Minerva. Also survived by grandchildren Thaddeus (Melissa), Gabriel (Barbara), Doug (Mandy), Chris (Amanda), Marshall (Melissa), Tyler (Kaitlin), Grant (Ana), Conner (Mackenzie), and Greg; great-grandchildren Olivia, Charlie, Layla, Ben, Luke, John, Samantha, Emma, Brooks, Hunter, and Hazel; and sisters Martha Clark and Anne Devine.
Family and friends will be received at the Hanoverton Christian Church (10251 Plymouth St. Hanoverton, OH 44423) on Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Funeral services will begin in the church at 11 a.m., with Rev. David Napier officiating.
Memorial donations, in Charles' name, may be made to Crossroads Hospice.
