Christina Cotopolis Sklavenitis, age 63, died peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones on October 21, st 2018 following a short illness. She was born on December 18, th 1954 in Canton Ohio to William and Florence "Sharleen" Cotopolis. Christina lived most of her life in Canton Ohio, and moved to Bluffton, SC in 2008. She attended Clarendon Grade School and graduated from Lincoln High School. She was a lifelong member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church in Canton, and served her church for many years as a GOYA advisor and St Haralambos Hellenic Dance troupe advisor AKA "Mother Christina." Christina devoted thousands of hours to community service, which included meals prepared for everyone in her life, family and strangers alike. The rest of her life, she was a devoted mother to her children, grandchildren and countless others she held in her heart.
Christina loved cooking, music and travel, having travelled most of the world and especially spending summers in Greece. Her greatest loves were her children, grandchildren and her countless Godchildren. Her special loves were babies, the nieces and nephews she helped raise and nurture into adulthood. Aunt "Teenie" was a loving second mother to so many. Christina generously gave many of her loved ones their first experiences, travel, concerts and many priceless memories.
She is survived by her mother Florence Cotopolis, son William Dub Sklavenitis (Staci) of Canton, three grandchildren Alexandria, Christian, and Keaton, daughter Artemis Nikolaou (Dino) also of Canton. Sister Stephanie Bologa (Jim) of Simsbury, CT, brothers William J. Cotopolis (Tracy) and James Cotopolis, all of Canton. Christina also left behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends, including her lifelong friend Cathy Gwen, all of whom she shared mountains of memories and love throughout her life. She left behind her special Bluffton family Millie and David Chappelear and their five sons. Christina was preceded in death by her father William Cotopolis, grandmother Wanda Barnish and godparents John and Mary Kiminas. These and her other deceased loved ones are awaiting her arrival to heaven with open arms.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Haralambos Greek Orhtodox Church. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating assisted by Rev. Dr. Deacon Keric Shiepis. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
