Christos Politis, age 74 of Canton, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. He was born in Fterno, Greece on November 21,1948 to the late Elias and Eleni (Kotopodis) Politis. He served in the Army in Greece during his younger years. In later years he was a merchant marine and traveled the world. In 1978 he migrated to the United States to be with family and friends from his home village and to achieve his American dream.

In 1979, Christos made a trip back to Greece and met and married his beloved wife, Sophia (Myriounis) Politis in Kanali (Greece). Together they came back to the United States with their baby girl Paraskevi "Vivi" and within two years the addition of their son Elias Politis to live on their American dream with family, friends, and the Greek community.

Christos was employed by Quality Mold, and later by Herbert USA, Inc. for a total of more than 30 years in the manufacturing industry. He was a member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church. He was beloved by his family and friends. Christos enjoyed gardening in his free time.

Along with his parents, Christos was preceded in death by his brother Spyrogiannis Politis, and sisters Maria Pitsouni and Alexandra Griva. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sophia Politis; children Paraskevi "Vivi" (George) Papaliodis and Elias (Vesna) Politis; grandchildren Stamos and Sophia Papaliodis, and Maximos, Zoe, and Elias Politis. Also survived by brother Michael (Joanna) Politis; sister Sophia Armatas; and sisters-in-laws, Panagiota Politis and Maria Politis.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, May 12, 2023 at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will begin in the church at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating. Interment to follow at Henry Warstler Cemetery.
