Clare Stasin, age 97 of Canton, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. She was of Greek and Asia Minor descent, born in Canton on August 14, 1927, to the late Harry and Anastasia (Georgeouli) Zantopoulos. A graduate of Canton McKinley High School, she was a longstanding active member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and the Koraes Ladies Society, as well as the Senior Citizens Club at her church. Clare was employed as a secretary by Stark State College, where she retired in 1997 to enjoy more time traveling with her husband and spending time with her grandchildren, John and Clare. She also loved sewing, cooking, and watching her favorite TV shows - Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Stasin, her two sisters Sophie Catranides and Helen James, and nephews Alex Koufos MD and Craig James. Clare is survived by her daughter Maria Stasinopoulos, and grandchildren Yianni Dimitri Stasinopoulos and Clare Marie Wilson. Also, nephews and nieces Petros Alevras (Hrissa), Kathy Koufos, Freda Mechas: aka Venetia Peters-Demetriou, and Doug James, as well as their children and her Godson's Rodney Strata and Jimmy Leontas.
Family and friends will be received at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will begin in the church at 11 a.m., with Rev Fr. Nicholas Halkias officiating. Interment to follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Makaria meal to follow at the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made in Clare's name to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
