Obituary

Cordella "Corky" R. Hutcheson

Corky was born in Byesville, Ohio on January 31, 1923. She was the second child of Otto and Edna Neel, having an older brother Eugene and a younger sister Shirley. After high school, Corky worked for the Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator. In 1944 she met the love of her life, Robert "Hutch" Hutcheson and was married on September 24, 1944 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Being a Canton native and quite homesick for her Ohio relatives, she and Hutch moved to Canton to raise their new family. Hutch soon found work as a lease man with Marsh Belden's Oil Company where he worked for 16 years in various capacities. In 1962, Hutch felt the urge to do something on his own. By this time the family had eight children and Hutch wanted to begin building for their future. Corky was concerned, but stood beside him, leading to the successful creation of Canton Oil Well Service and ultimately BoCor Drilling Company. A legacy was born. Hutch was the leader of the company but Corky was the strength.

Corky is the mother of 11, grandmother of 37, and great-grandmother of 35. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Spitler, daughter Marguerite (Rita) R. Hutcheson (Kathy); son Thomas R. Hutcheson (Diane); daughter Susan K. McKibben; daughter Patricia A. Paumier (James); son Kevin W. Hutcheson (Jodi); daughter Mary T. Young (Mark); daughter Donna J. Fleischman (Greg); daughter Julie M. Hohman (David); daughter Joell L. Cook (Paul); son Robert J. Hutcheson II (Keena); 37 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. Even as blessed as Corky was, nobody lives 92 years without loss; Corky had Three significant losses. On April 5, 1971, Corky's eldest son; Robert Joseph Hutcheson was killed in a tragic motor vehicle accident. On January 20, 1991, Corky's eldest granddaughter and namesake of her eldest son; Bobbie Jo McKibben was also killed in a motor vehicle accident. Then on September 2, 2005, she lost the love of her life, Robert "Hutch" Hutcheson. Also preceding her in death were her father, Otto; mother, Edna; and brother, Eugene. Corky will be missed dearly by everyone whose lives she touched in some fashion. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you to make a donation in Corky's name to Catholic Charities, the MS Society, the Wounded Warrior project, or to a charity of your choice. Calling hours are Monday, July 20 from 6 PM to 8 PM at Rossi Funeral Home.
