September 4, 1919 – January 5, 2015
Daniel F. Martino, age 95 of Canton, passed away Monday evening after an extended illness. Born in Canton to the late Emidio and Josephine (Iacovone) Martino, he was preceded in death by great-granddaughter Lily Jo Crescenzo, brothers Nick, Paul and his twin Joe. An avid athlete who excelled at fastpitch softball, golf and bowling to name a few, he was know as "Gluefingers Dan" while playing for the Army in Panama during the war. He was inducted into the Stark County Fastpitch Hall of Fame. He was an Army veteran of WW II attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, and a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. Dan retired in 1979 from the U.S. Post Office after 32 years as a letter carrier. He then became a starter at Skyline Pines Golf Course. Survived by his wife of 68 years, Arbie (Costello) Martino, daughter and son-in-law Mary Jo and Dennis Varn, grandchildren Daniel Varn, Jacqeulyn (Brian) Crescenzo and great-grandson Grady James Crescenzo. Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 5 to 7 pm at the Rossi Family Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Craig McHenry, celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Dan's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
