Gatto, Sr.
March 12, 1931 – May 22, 2015
David R. Gatto, Sr., age 84 of Canton, passed away Friday evening after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Canton to the late Frank and Petronella (Maruca) Gatto, he was preceded in death by sisters Angelina Shaheen, Eleanor Muntean and Josephine Carabojl and brother Frank Gatto. A 1949 graduate of Canton McKinley High School, David was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Chapel. He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran earning the rank of Sergeant. David was also a member of the American Legion Post #44 and their Honor Guard, and the V.F.W. Post #3747. He was a route salesman for different companies including Superior Milk. He retired from Brownlee Engineering as the maintenance engineer. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Anna (Risaliti) Gatto, children; Gerri and Michael Pierce, David Gatto, Diane Wackerly, Patricia and Tom Brookins, nine grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, sisters Geraldine Cummings and Carmella Brewer. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm at the Rossi Family Funeral Home. A Requiem High Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Chapel (2935 Chenoweth Rd.) with Rev. Fr. Leo M. Carley, celebrant. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
