Obituary

David L. (Kelly) McGowan Age 82 of Louisville, Ohio. Born and raised in Akron, on December 16 th , 1930, he passed away Saturday evening February 15, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center. Preceded in death by his adoptive parents Nick and Edna Deneff and first wife of 30 years, JeaneAnn (Hersek). Survived by his wife and best friend Tina (Procario) after celebrating their 15 th anniversary on Valentine's Day, daughters, Kim (David) Enoch of Tennessee and Michelle Gaskins of Akron, Son Daniel (Katherine Wells) of Texas, Stepdaughter Theresa Leary(John Berring Jr) of Homeworth, Stepsons Steve (Angel) Leary of Louisville and Joe (Stacey) Leary of Magnolia. David and Tina truly enjoyed their 15 grandchildren (Tara, Breck, Kelley, Eric, Gabe, Emmerson, Addison, Zachary, Kayla, Austin, Morgan, Ashlee, Miley, Trina, Tristyn), Great Grandchildren (Bearrett, Peyton). And many nieces, nephews, brother and sister in laws. At 17, David left high school to join the Navy, spending 10 years in the service with the Navy and Marines as a medic in the Korean War. During training with the Marine Corps he was one of the two from Ohio to march into Ground Zero after the Atom bomb was tested. Following his Military Service in Korea, he and JeaneAnn moved to Green and he went to work for Coca Cola of Akron as a salesman then as a manager, retiring at age 59. One of his biggest moments was playing 5 minutes against Los Angeles Rams in a charity football game while he was in the service. With his love of football and baseball he coached Green peewee for many years where he had one undefeated season. He also coached baseball for many years with 6 championships. He was inducted into the Green Youth Football Hall of Fame. He was a member of American Legion (Post 548). He loved euchre, poker, going to casinos and fishing. He missed his buddy Duke (border collie). They both had a hard time walking. His beloved pets Molly, Max, Reba and Shiloh will miss him. He was a kind gentle man with a big heart, he loved to tell jokes. He always said that he never met a stranger. The family would like to give a special thanks to Doctor Penvose, Doctor Decoy and the staff of CCU at Mercy Medical Center. Also, thank you to our families for the support through Dave's illness. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm at the Rossi Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 am at St. Louis Catholic Parish with Rev. Fr. Larry Frient celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
