Delbert R. Nething, age 96 of Canton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026. Born on July 17, 1929, in Bellaire, Ohio, Delbert graduated from Timken High School. He then began working at Downtown Motors, until being drafted into the Army, where he served on the front lines during the Korean War. Delbert was proud of his service, and was a very patriotic man his entire life.
Following his military service, Delbert dedicated his professional career to the automotive industry—a passion that lasted his entire life. He worked for ten years at Central Chrysler in New Philadelphia, Ohio. Delbert returned to Canton, where he owned and operated Nething Auto Sales, retiring at the age of 62.
Those who knew Delbert will remember him as a kind man who always offered help to his friends and neighbors. His thoughtful nature was evident in simple but meaningful gestures—he always kept extra water bottles ready for the trashmen each week and stash of dog bones for any dog walking by the house.
Delbert was preceded in death by his mother Leona Schaffer, and brother Arthur (Veda) Nething. He is survived by the love of his life, Clara (Tarulli) Nething, together sharing 75 and a half years together; children Debra (Nick) Betro, and Joan (Jack) Foughty; four grandchildren Michael (Cristin) Betro, Adam (Meredyth) Betro, Jessica (Scott) Russell, and Joseph (Diane) Foughty; eight great-grandchildren Nina, Brady, Jacob, Juliet, James, Adelina, Camden, and Levi. Also survived by his lifelong best friends Dave, Carol, and Janelle Zingery.
Family and friends will be received at the Rossi Family Funeral Home on Thursday, May 21, 2026 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Aultman Compassionate Care Center or the Salvation Army.
