Despina Zantopulos passed away quietly on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Windsor Medical Center in North Canton. She was born in St. John, Sparta, Lakonias, Greece to the late Theodore and Sophia Mirides. She came to the U.S. in the early 50's where she met the love of her life, John Zantopulos, who preceded her in death. They married in June 1959 and raised two sons in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and the North Canton School System.

Despina learned to be a seamstress while in Greece; she was also quite the baker, always making Greek pastries. She loved her church, where she would help cook and bake with her friends. Above all, she truly loved her family and everyone she met. Despina worked at Ceramic Tile for a few years, and then spent the next 25 years at the Hoover Company, where she later retired from.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings Thanasi, George and Katherine. She leaves behind her sons Archie (Susan) and William (Karen); grandchildren Adam (Sara) and Andrea, and William (Liz) and Deanna (Matt); and great-grandchildren Lena and Luke, and Tristan, Liam and Juliet, as well as the less than a month old Bruce.

Many thanks to the wonderful staff at The Windsor in North Canton, and the families of those who reside there, many who became friends and extended family along the way. Also, thank you to the members of Aultman Hospice who were always at her side, especially Gretchen and Jen.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, October 14, 2024 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will begin in the church at 11 a.m., with Rev. Fr. Nicholas Halkias officiating. Interment to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Despina's name may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
