Dimitrios E. Armatas, age 94, of Canton, passed away Friday morning, April 1, 2016. Born in Fterno, Lefkada, Greece to the late Efstathios and Maria (Sklerou) Armatas, he was preceded in death by his sister Mavretta and brothers Nikos, Alex, Vasilios and Gerasimos Armatas. Dimitrios emigrated to Canton in 1960. He was employed by Spilios Candy Company and the Golden Pheasant Restaurant. A member of both St. Haralambos and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox churches and the Senior Citizens of St. Haralambos. Dimitrios was an avid dandelion picker. He loved his family dearly and always emphasized the importance of family love and unity. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Helen (Sklavenitis) Armatas, children Maria Politis, George (Athanasia) Armatas, Steve (Fran) Armatas, all of Canton, six grandchildren: Helen (Makis) Asimakopoulos, Dimitra (Eric) Koehler, Jimmy Armatas, Phillip Armatas, Eleni (Tom) Kostakis, Christina Armatas, six great-grandchildren: Konstandinos and Michael Asimakopoulos, Alyssa Koehler, Alexi, Evie and Peter Kostakis, brother Kostas Armatas, sister Vasilo Sklavenitis, sister-in-law Denise Armatas, many cousins, nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dimitrios' name may be made to St. Haralambos or Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox churches. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the caregivers at Aultman Hospital and St. Luke Lutheran Home for their loving care.
