August 6, 1929 – September 4, 2016
Doris M. (Wood) Mattachione, 87 died on Sept. 4 th at her residence, the Kemper House in Strongsville, Ohio. She was born in Massillon, Ohio to the late Timothy John Wood and Anna Katherine Powers on August 6th, 1929. She was a graduate of Kent State University with a bachelor and master degree in Education. She taught English and Speech and was a school counselor in the Perry School District. In 1969, she became the dean of girls at Washington High School. Married to the love of her life and the life of the party, Pat F. Mattachione on August 13, 1966 until his death in 2007. They spent a lifetime teaching, counseling, and traveling the world. She was a church organist, vocalist and an active member of Alphi Xi Delta. Preceded by death her brother John Robert Wood and sister Patricia A. Wood. She is survived by her nephew Michael Heintz of Muinising, MI, Carol Heintz (Mark), Timothy Wood (Lori), great nieces Ava, Vivienne and nephew Jack. She had two exchange students, Marina (Ngan) Wilson of Willington, New Zealand and Carlos Rinaldi of Buenos Aires, Argentina. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 9 th at 10am in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. G. David Weikart celebrant. Friends may call at St. Joan of Arc from 9am-10am. Internment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
