Dulce Marie
Sarbaugh
February 26, 1937 – January 25, 2024
Dulce Marie Sarbaugh, age 86, passed away on January 25, 2024. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 26, 1937, to the late Jose and Dulce Marie Fernandez. Dulce was a 1955 graduate of McKinley High School, and later retired from Charter One as an Administrative Assistant. She was extremely proud of her Spanish heritage, as she was a member of the Spanish American Women's Club, the Spanish American Card Club, and was crowned the 1953 Spanish American Queen. Dulce was a past member of Massillon St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Mary Church Choir. She loved teaching pre-school on Sundays for many years at St. Mary's. She is currently a member of St. Peter Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and Presenter of Offertory Gifts.
Dulce was an active parent involved in many roles at Massillon St. Mary's School including being a troop leader for the Girl Scouts, serving as a member of the PTO Association, was known for handing out hotdogs every Wednesday as part of the one day a week hot lunch program.
An excellent cook, Dulce's kitchen always had the aroma of pastries and pies. Her favorite boundless meals were presented to her family at all the holidays. She was a lifelong fan of Notre Dame football, her beloved McKinley Bulldogs and she enjoyed her summers by attending and cheering on the Cleveland Indians. Dulce was an avid dancer every Saturday to big band music with the love of her life Gene at Meyers Lake Moonlight Ballroom. She also loved going to the movies weekly.
Along with her biological parents, she was preceded in death by Manuel and Generosa Garcia who raised and loved her as their own; beloved daughter Beth; and siblings Raymond Fernandez, Isabel Garcia, Louis Garcia, and Blanche Julian. Dulce is survived by her husband of 66 years and caretaker, Gene Sarbaugh; children Jeffrey (Ginny) Sarbaugh, Denise (William) Bryan, Amy (Matt) Miklos, and Jeanne (Steven) Faber; twelve grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received at the Rossi Family Funeral Home Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, the Very Reverend Dr. David Misbrener, D. Min. as celebrant.
Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Alzheimer's Association, in Dulce's name.
Dulce brought joy to everyone's life, to honor her the family is requesting people to wear pink, her favorite color, or red for her all-time favorite McKinley Bulldogs, if possible.
