IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edith F.
(Romeo) Sturiale
October 7, 1927 – July 27, 2013
Edith F. Sturiale, 86, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 27, with Silas "Bud" McKinney, her husband and long-term partner, at her side, as he's been every day since her diabetes complications began nearly three years ago. For the past two years, Edith has been a resident at Green Meadows Nursing Home in Louisville, who the family credits for stabilizing her condition and helping her regain functions.
Edith was born in Helen, W. Virginia, on Oct. 7, 1927. She attended Mark Twain High School, but moved to Canton, OH, with her family, finishing high school at McKinley while working full-time at Old King Cole Manufacturing and later at Spun Steel. She earned a cosmetology degree, but later chose to stay home and raise her children. Her first husband, Frank P. Sturiale, Sr., was the father of her children.
Edith returned to work once her children were grown. She worked at Spun Steel for 14 years until it closed and later at Century Products where she started as a line worker and worked her way up to foreman and supervisor of production lines for car seats and baby equipment. Always good with her hands and being mechanically inclined, Edith was adept at fixing and making things. Upon retirement, she loved to crochet and knit, and made numerous blankets, tablecloths, doilies and keepsakes for her family. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, canning and mowing her lawn. She was a common site on her riding mower well into her 80s. She is survived by her husband Silas "Bud" McKinney (who currently works at Republic Storage in Canton); daughter, Jo Anne of Madison, WI; sons Vincent (Peggy) of Houston, TX and Frank (Amy) of Columbus, OH; stepson Robert (Deb) McKinney of Massillon; and stepdaughter Nora (Rich) Gurgle of East Canton. She also leaves 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren. She is also survived by her three sisters Yolanda (Leonard) Bennett of North Canton, Juanita Martin of North Canton and Josephine (Phina) (George) Strata of Bowling Green, OH; sister-in-law Evelyn (Cateno) Romeo and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Vincenzo Romeo, mother Josephine (Pastore) Romeo Martin, stepfather Miguel Martin, brother Cateno Romeo, infant daughter Helena and mother and father-in-law Silas and Louis McKinney of Bakersville, NC. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home. A brief service will be conducted at Rossi on Friday, Aug. 2 at 10 a.m., followed by interment at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Louisville.
