Edna Anastasia Stamatoff (1918-2016)
Edna A. Stamatoff peacefully departed this life on Monday, February 22, at the blessed age of 97. She has been reunited with her loving husband, Peter ("Pete the Tailor"); beloved daughter Elaine; parents, Sotir and Flora Durato; and siblings: brothers Michael (Dorothy) Durato and John (Helen) Durato, and her sisters, Sena (Boris) Ristoff and Florence (Givko) Mincheff. Edna's greatest joys were her family and home. She worked as a seamstress in the tailor shop from their marriage in 1946 until his death in 1977. They designed and built their dream home on 38 th and Frazer, where her love of flowers added beauty to the neighborhood. And no one ever left her home without being treated to her delicious food and baked goods. Edna is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Fr. Basil (Frank) Shaheen, three grandsons: Dr. William (Jessica) of Akron and their three children (Luke, Andrew, and Elise Rose), Dr. Daniel (Penny) Shaheen of Dallas and their two children (Ava and Alexander), and Justin (Karen) Cooke of Canton, as well as several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, February 25, at the Rossi Family Funeral Home, with the Trisagion service at 6:30. On Friday, there will be calling hours from 1 to 2 pm, followed by the funeral service at 2 pm in the funeral home officiated by Rev. Fr. Michael Corbin, assisted by Rev. Fr. Basil Shaheen. Burial will be at North Lawn Cemetery. Donations in Edna's memory may be made to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 1118 Cherry Avenue NE, Canton, OH 44704. The family wishes to express its appreciation to the staff of Bethany Nursing Home for the manner in which they manifested God's love. Her final months were deeply enriched by the care they provided. Edna's middle name—Anastasia--in Greek means "Resurrection." "For if we have been united together in the likeness of His [Christ's] death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection." (Romans 6:5 NKJV)
