Bendekgey
November 19, 1920 – April 23, 2017
Edward Bendekgey, age 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2017. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, and was stationed at Fort Knox in 1961 with the 350 th Evacuation Hospital during the Berlin Crisis. After 20 years, he retired as a Major in the U.S. Army Reserves. Edward attended Boston University on the G.I. Bill and graduated in 1949. He was a self-employed Certified Public Accountant for many years and an Assistant Professor in the Business Department of Walsh College. He was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, and a lifetime member of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants. In 2011, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Service and Dedication to Walsh University and its Alumni. Edward loved woodworking and made numerous pieces of furniture and toys for his family and friends, as well as items for the church and for the children. He also was talented in marquetry and made a variety of pictures for people, including the Last Supper, which hangs in the Chapel at Walsh University. Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife Rose, his parents, siblings, and a great granddaughter. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Carole (Joe) Eaton, Edward J. (Teresita) Bendekgey, Gloria (Roger) Dunnivan, and Robert Bendekgey; grandchildren and spouses: Carrie (Martin) Kirsch; April, Brian (Amy), and Daniel (Kristin) Dunnivan; Dana (Kevin) Bottomley, Jeff (Kristen) Eaton; Sam Bendekgey, Elena (Josh) Minnick; 11 great grandchildren. Per his wishes, private funeral and burial services have been held. The family wishes to thank Very Rev. Father Michael Corbin, Rev. Father Basil Shaheen, and the staff at the Sanctuary Grande for their compassion, kindness and graciousness to our father and our family. Memorial contributions may be made to The Antiochian Village Camp, 201 St Ignatius Trail, Bolivar, PA 15923.
