Elias "Eli" Coulas, 54, of Canton, Ohio, departed this life on June 8, 2014, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Eli was born on May 20, 1960, in Canton, Ohio, to Constantine (Gust) and Anna Coulas. Eli was preceded in death by his father, Constantine, and brother, George. He is survived by his mother, Anna, his son, Elias James "E.J.," and daughters Aubrey and Ariana. Eli was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, participating in parish council, coaching basketball, and other activities. Eli earned his Baccalaureate from Kent State University and a Juris Doctorate from The University of Akron. He was a teacher in Canton City Schools for 26 years, and taught at McKinley Senior High School. Eli was an inspiration to all who knew him, and was loved by his students and colleagues. Among Eli's many accomplishments, he was involved in Mock Trial and Academic Challenge, and was honored numerous times via the Canton Scholars Recognition Banquet sponsored by Canton City Schools. Eli was a devoted father, son and friend who loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was an accomplished woodworker, golfer and motorcycle enthusiast. Eli was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. Eli's main focus in life was his children, and he was the consummate father and mentor to them. The family wishes to thank Father Dan Rogich for his visitation and consolation during Eli's illness. They also wish to extend warm thanks to Alliance Hospice for all of their loving care and kindness afforded to Eli and his family. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm at the Rossi Funeral Home with Trisagion Services to be held at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 11:00am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Dr. Daniel Rogich officiating. Calling hours will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Christian Fund.
