IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elmer Russell
Corbit
February 13, 1931 – March 5, 2024
Elmer Russell Corbit, age 93, passed away March 5th at Copeland Oaks/Crandall Medical Center in Sebring, Ohio where he had resided the past five years.
Born on February 13, 1931, to Russell and Frances Corbit, Elmer graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949 as a football, basketball and baseball player, as well as a tenor singing in the choir under Ruth Cogan. He and his buddies, Bud Neal and Warren Bertram, even created the NBC Trio, singing anywhere they had a chance.
Starting as a Purchasing Agent for Harrison Paint, he retired after 32 years as the VP in Industrial Sales.
He loved all sports but especially baseball, originating and coaching for seven years the Pizza Oven Class A Baseball Team. He also played in a Class A league from 1950-55. He coached many of the teams his sons played on and later officiated many Stark County high school basketball games. After retiring he really enjoyed golf, was a Starter at Tam O'Shanter and played as often as he could. Eventually he and Loretta purchased a condo on a golf course in DelRay Beach, Florida where they enjoyed many winters
He belonged to the North Canton Elks and North Canton Toastmasters Club. He was in charge of the Hall of Fame Committee responsible for refreshments along the parade route in its early years and was president of quite a few PTAs when his kids were young.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife Loretta Jean DiRuzza Corbit, to whom he was married for 50 years, his sister Treva Swanson and brother Richard Corbit. He leaves behind his daughters Claudia (Dwight) Corbit Sammet, Francine (Greg) Corbit New, his sons Thomas and Michael (Kim) Corbit, and the grandchildren he adored: Jessica (Sammet) Beauchamp (Taylor) of Atlanta, GA., Katie (Sammet) Grise (Mark) of Heath, OH., Julie New of Columbus, OH., Molly (New) Noti (Peter) of Cape Coral, Fla., Dena (New) Swanger (Phil) of Golden, CO., Tyler (fiance Joslin Williams) and Logan Corbit of Columbus, OH. and his great-grandchildren, Will and Emily Beauchamp, Ethan and Wesley Grise, Lilly and Parker Noti and Ellie and Adele Swanger. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Carol DiRuzza and his brother-in law, Rick DiRuzza (Judy) many nieces and nephews and Jean DeName, who is a very special friend.
Anyone who knew Elmer knew he had a very ornery side to him and loved to crack jokes to anyone who would listen - servers, cashiers and his own kids and grandkids who would often roll their eyes!
A private memorial service for immediate family will be held prior to burial at Calvary Cemetery.
