Elmer H. Viertel, 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14th. A life-long resident of Canton, Ohio, he was a 1948 graduate of East Canton High School, graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Engineering. He was employed at Lockheed Martin (Goodyear Aerospace) until retirement. Elmer is preceded in death by his parents, Lottie and Alfred Viertel; his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Josephine Viertel; great-niece Brittany Reeves. He is survived by nieces Cindy Briggs, Diane (Dave) Hickman, and Susan Holb; great-nieces Tonia (Tony) Crescenzo, Jennifer (John) Oliver; great-nephew David (Sandi) Holb; and their families of great-great nieces and nephews, and great-great-great nieces. Also surviving are cousins Barbel (Sonny) Pflugfelder, Eleanor Kern, Joanne (Don) Shankel, Nancy Loury, Bob (Dorothy) Viertel; and their families. In keeping with Elmer's wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the Rossi Family Funeral Home, Canton; his cremains will be buried at the head of his parents' gravesites at Sunset Hills Burial Park, also in Canton, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Elmer's name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
