IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Emery C.
Jakab
November 1, 1923 – March 20, 2015
Emery C. Jakab, age 91, passed away on March 20, 2015 at Bethany Nursing Home. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 1, 1923 he was a Canton resident since 1951. He was a proud WW II veteran having served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Wichita with his lifetime pal Thomas Jordan who resides in Madison, CT. In Canton, Emery worked at Ace Lumber, DeVille Lumber and Crystal Park Lumber for his friend Robert Weintraub. He served the City of Canton as Chief Code Enforcement Officer in the Building Department, retiring in 1986 after 21 years of service. Emery loved to play golf with his sons, his brother-in-law Don Bregitzer and many other friends. For thirty years Emery and a variety of these friends vacationed in Hilton Head, SC in June to golf and just enjoy life, and Emery surely did enjoy life. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Joan (Pope) Jakab, and his son Dennis E. Jakab, a brother Jack Jakab, sisters Thelma Bowen and Joyce Jakab. Survived by a son Dan (Rebecca) Jakab of Canton, brother and sister-in-law Don and Helen Bregitzer of Concord, Ohio and a special niece Joan Halter of Canton, nephew Richard Bowen of Chicago, ILL, who visited him at Bethany Nursing Home, grandchildren Brian Lowry, Carrie Lowry, Anthony and Coleen Jakab, great-grandchildren Mia and Braden Lowry and a host of nieces and nephews. Emery was a fifty year member of St. Paul Catholic Parish in Canton, member of the Knight of Columbus St. John Council #341 and a patron of St. John's Villa in Carrollton, Ohio for whom he annually sponsored "Breakfast with Santa" in conjunction with St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church in Canton. Emery was badly injured in a fall in 2004 and was incapacitated. The final ten years of his life were spent as a member of The "Bethany" family. They made his life comfortable and happy through their loving, compassionate care. A very special thanks to the Baum family and the entire Bethany Nursing Home staff! Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the Rossi Family Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 am at St. Peter Catholic Parish with Rev. Fr. Edward Beneleit, celebrant. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. John's Villa (701 Crest St., P.O. Box 457, Carrollton, OH 44615).
