Esther (Stacy) Tzortzakis Vagotis, age 93 of Canton, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2017. She was born on April 27, 1924 to the late Kostandinos and Vasiliki (Spiropoulos) Tzortzakis. Esther was a 1942 graduate of Timken Vocational High School where she earned her certificate in Cosmetology. She worked as a beautician at Halle Brother's Department Store, retiring to become a homemaker. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Angelo (Jack) Vagotis in 1989, brothers Steve Tzortzakis and Kelly Tzortzakis, and sisters Despina (Loula) Kolidakis, and Pauline Tzortzakis. She is survived by her children George (Rosemarie) Vagotis of Lorain, Ohio, Dr. Francine Vagotis (Chuck Smeester) of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Angela Vagotis of Canton, Ohio; grandchildren Astacia (Nick) Myers, Christina Vagotis (Jason Harless), Jacquelyn (Rick) Novotny, Luke Smeester, Lea Smeester and Jacob Vagotis Shankel; great-grandchildren Rosemarie Sanchez, Alexander Harless, Rozalyn Novotny and Luca Myers; niece Valerie Zverina; and many godchildren. Esther was a lifelong member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church and served on the Parish Council and chaired the VIP dinners at Topp's Chalet for many years. She was a member of the St. Haralambos Ladies Philoptochos Society and served as President and a Board member from 1976 to 2012. She also served on the Philoptochos Metropolis Board in Pittsburgh from 1986 to 1997 and was appointed to the National Philoptochos Board serving from 1994 to 1998. She was honored locally with the Woman of Distinction Award and nationally for all her years of service to the Ladies Philoptochos Society. She was a member of the Silver Liners, Daughters of Penelope, Chloris Chapter 44, and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. When not serving her church community or spending time with her beloved family, Esther spent her years traveling the world. Her adventurous spirit led her to destinations including Jerusalem, China, New Zealand, and throughout Europe. Esther was also blessed to have many life-long friends including the wonderful women in her canasta card group. Family and friends will be received at the Rossi Family Funeral Home Tuesday, October 24, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., with Trisagion services starting at 7:00 p.m, followed by the Daughters of Penelope service. Friends may also call Wednesday, October 25 at 10:00 a.m., with funeral services beginning at 11:00 AM at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating and assisted by Rev. Constantine Shiepis and Deacon and godson Keric Shiepis. Interment will be at North Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church. Her children wish to thank her Koumbara Georgene Pagonis and her godson Dean Pagonis for their endless devotion to her. They also wish to thank her many caregivers and nursing staff over the years specifically, the entire staff at Windsor Medical Center and Crossroads Hospice, for their compassionate and loving care.
