Degasperis, Sr.
November 21, 1929 – February 2, 2018
Eugene J. DeGasperis, Sr. age 88 of Canton, passed away Friday evening. Born in Canton to the late Luigi and Anna (Capistrelli) DeGasperis, he was also preceded in death by his wife Katherine (Boyd) whom he was married to for 40 years, brothers Richie, Ernie, Guido, Pete, and sister Sylvia Mirone. He was a graduate of McKinley High School and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church where he sang in the choir, volunteered and worked as the custodian for many years. Gino also volunteered at St. Vincent Abby in Latrobe, Pennsylvania for many years. Gino retired as a foreman for the Norfolk and Western Railroad in 1992 after 43 years of service. He was an avid bowler, in his career bowling three 300 games and one 815 series which he was most proud of. And had a love for gardening. He is survived by sons Eugene Jr. (Wilma) of Canton, Dave (Carol) of North Canton, Mike (Cathy) of Canton, Chris DeGasperis of Louisville, five grandchildren; Evan, Michael ll, Amy, Grace, and Gabrielle DeGasperis. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm at the Rossi Family Funeral Home. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 am in St. Benedict Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Benson Okpara celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. For those who wish donations in Gino's name may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at Post Office Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
