IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Evelyn T.
(Turnides) Romeo
July 31, 2014
EVELYN T. (TURNIDES) ROMEO, age 86 of North Canton, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, July 31. Born in Weirton, WV to the late John and Sofia (Zaromites) Turnides, she was preceded in death by her husband Cateno Romeo and sister Elizabeth Brown. Evelyn was a 1946 graduate of Timken Vocational High School, member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Koraes Ladies Society (3 years president), Daughters of Penelope, Senior Citizens of Holy Trinity (4 years president) and honored as the 2007 Holy Trinity Woman of the Year. She retired in 1985 as a supervisor in quality control with the Hoover Company after 23 years of service. Evelyn is survived by her sons James of San Diego, CA, John (Vicki) of Tuscon, AZ, Michael Romeo of North Canton, four grandchildren; Vincent, Nick, Jace, James (Stephanie) Romeo, great-grandchildren Cateno J. Romeo, Elliot Michael Romeo and sister Flora Anderson. Evelyn was passionate about life, whether it was from raising her three sons, or nurturing their children, to assisting the less fortunate with volunteer work at Quest Recovery. But her greatest passion outside of her husband, Cateno was her love of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Member and President of three organizations within the church, choir member and director of the church choir, she even found time to sew and mend Father Dan's holy vestments and make the alter boy robes. Her children were the constant recipients of her love as manifested in her attendance at every athletic contest and every concert they ever played in. Her love was on constant display and her fighting spirit will never be forgotten. The family is grateful for the inspired care and compassion given by her doctor, Dr.James Schmotzer, and the staff at Crossroads Hospice. Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 5 to 8 pm at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church (4705 Fairhaven NW) and Monday from 10 to 11am. Trisagion services will be at 7pm Sunday. Funeral services will be Monday at 11am with Rev. Dr. Daniel Rogich officiating and Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas assisting. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted. Donations in Evelyn's name may be made to the Christian Fund of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
