Fidel "Fife" Ampudia Herraiz, 88, of Canton passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018. Born April 27, 1929 in Canton to Fidel Herraiz and Palmira Ampudia Herraiz, he is preceded in death by his dear wife of 55 years, Emily (Nicholas) Herraiz; and his sisters, Aurora "Irene" Rossetti and Isabelle Herraiz; and the family dog, Diggity, pictured above at Fidel's request. He is survived by his brother, Domingo Herraiz and sister-in-law Tonia Herraiz of Canton; sons Steven Herraiz of San Francisco, and David Herraiz and his wife Jessica Herraiz of Copley, Ohio; daughters Michele Herraiz of Canton, and Laurie Herraiz of San Francisco; his beloved grandchildren, Carmen and Roman Warder, Hannah Herraiz and Houston Conners; and his faithful dog, Moses. A native of Canton, Fidel graduated in 1947 from Timken Vocational High School. He then proudly served in the United States Army from 1948 – 1952 in Occupied Japan during the Korean Conflict. He worked and retired form Republic Steel after 43 years. Fidel married Emily (Nicholas) Herraiz in 1960 and was an active member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church of Canton as well as the Spanish American Club. He was committed to a healthy lifestyle and made conscious choices about exercise, nutrition, and dietary supplements. Fidel was a lifelong reader, loved to shop, and will be remembered for his generosity, his uncanny ability to find the best bargain, and his brilliant sense of humor. Family and friends will be received at the Rossi Family Funeral Home on Sunday, January 14 th from 5 to 7 pm and Monday from 10 to 11 am. Trisagion service will be Sunday at 6:30 pm. Funeral service will be Monday at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Fr. Michael Corbin officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Akron Children's Hospital or St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church.
