Gene C. Simia, Sr., age 90 of Massillon. A loving father and grandfather, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018. He was born in Canton to the late Luigi and Aurora (Ciccone) Simia. He grew up in the Corn Center and went to Belden Elementary School, where he was the 8 ^th grade Marble Champion. Gene attended McKinley High School, and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was an avid golfer and bowler, a member of the Ford U.A.W., and played the accordion for various bands. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Judy. Gene is survived by his children Gene, Jr. (Yvonne) Simia of Monroe Falls, and Susan Bianchi (Sonny Rave) of Rocky River; step-children Shawn Lough, Shelly Rinehart and Jeff Lough. Also survived by grandsons Anthony and Michael Bianchi; step-grandchildren Sarah (Tim) Mix, Charlie Brown and Emmy Rinehart; two step-great-grandchildren; brother Albert Simia; sister Doris Karras; and nieces Sharon (Jon) Crush and Francesca (Aaron) Burgess. Family and friends will be received at the Rossi Family Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Fr. Edward Beneleit as celebrant. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park.
