George A.
Shaheen
June 6, 1930 – February 2, 2015
George A. Shaheen, age 84 of Canton, passed away Monday. Born in Canton to the late Ayub and Alexandria Shaheen. He was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. George was a 1948 graduate of Timken Vocational High School. A Korean War Veteran having served in the United States Army. George was also part of the American Legion Post #44. He was a graduate from Kent State University where he received a Bachelors Degree in Education, he then went on to earn his Masters Degree in Administration from Ashland University. George was the Fine Arts Director at Canton South High School; he then retired in 1984, after 32 years of service to the Canton Local School System. He went on to teach Art classes for two years at St. Thomas Aquinas. George was innovative in starting the first K through 12 all district Art Show in Stark County – a show that still continues today. He was also employed at Costigan's Office Supply Store where he started the Art Supply Department. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Delores Shaheen. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna Toney; two sons Kevin Michael and George Ayub Jr. of Canton, and daughter and son-in-law Maria Beth and Paul Nagel of Medina. He is also survived by two grandchildren whom he adored very much, Nick and John Nagel; his sister and brother-in-law Sally and George Michael of Canton, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 5 to 8 and Friday from 10 to 11 am at the Rossi Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be followed in the funeral home at 11 am with Rev. Fr. Michael Corbin as celebrant, assisted by Rev. Fr. Basil Shaheen. Trisagion services will be Thursday at 7:30 pm. Internment will be in Northlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
