July 7, 1943 – January 15, 2026
George Louis Demis of Massillon, Ohio passed away on Thursday, January 15th, at age 82 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
For 55 years, George was a devoted and caring husband to Patricia (nee Spilios) Demis. Preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Chrysanthe Demis; his in-laws, Anthony and Carolyn Spilios; and his sisters, Barbara Voyiaziakis and Dena Nikokirakis. In addition to his wife Patti, he is survived by his children Carolyn (Kent) Turner of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Lee (Beth) Demis of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the proud and loving Papou to his grandchildren, US Army Sergeant Andrew (Shantille) Turner, Abigail Turner, Sam, Gus, and Luke George Demis. He is also survived by his brother, Nick Demis, brothers-in-law, the Reverend Stanley Voyiaziakis, Tony Nikokirakis, and many loving nieces and nephews.
A 1961 graduate of Massillon Washington High School, George was an All-Ohio Center on the football team, and continued his education and athletic career at the University of Alabama and Ohio Northern University, where he graduated with a degree in Secondary Education. He later received his Masters in Education from Kent State University. George began his career teaching and coaching at Canton Glenwood High School, and working evenings at the Spilios Candy Company. He spent the remainder of his career teaching, coaching football and as an Assistant Principal in the Canton City School District, primarily at Hartford Junior High School and McKinley Senior High School.
Funeral services for George will be held on Saturday January 24, 2026 at St Harlambos Greek Orthodox Church at 11:00am, preceded by calling hours at 10:00am. Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas will officiate the service, with interment in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Massillon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church (Canton) or St. George Greek Orthodox Church (Massillon).
