George Matinides, age 81 of Louisville, passed away Friday surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. Born in Louisville to the late Christ and Mary (Agathon) Matinides, he was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. A graduate of Louisville High School, George was an Army veteran stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas where he served as a medic. He was a member of the Amateur Radio Club. He retired in 1988 from Ohio Bell Telephone after 33 years of service. Survived by his wife of 58 years Jean (Vafides) Matinides, children Dr. Chris (Brenda) Matinides of North Canton, Elizabeth (Michael) Sullivan of Columbus, four grandchildren, Chris and Michelle Sullivan, Alexa and Brooke Matinides, brothers-in-law Harry (Irene) Vafides of Farmingham, MA, Alex (LaVerne) Vafides of Boardman and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Monday from 6 to 8 pm at the Rossi Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 am at Fellowship Baptist Church (3741 Fohl Rd. SW, Canton) with Pastor Tom Shank officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church.
