George Pousoulides, 89, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2018 surrounded by his family. George was born on January 30, 1929 in Thessaloniki, Greece. Although orphaned at the age of two and deprived of a formal education (his youth interrupted by World War II), George lived life to its fullest. He grew up in Kalamaria, Greece and eventually made his way to America in 1959. He married Magdalene, and together they worked hard and raised their family, whom he loved with all of his heart. George was a steelworker at Wean United, later United Foundries, and a proud member of the United Steelworkers of America Union Local 3610. He enjoyed his trips back to Greece to visit his sisters, family and friends in his hometown. An avid cook in past years, he was famous for his plaki fish and lamb shank dinners. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church where he was a past President of the Holy Trinity Men's Club. He was especially honored to be elected as a Democratic Central Committee Precinct Person for several terms from his neighborhood precinct in Plain Township. George was also extremely proud of his Pontian heritage. His family immigrated to Greece in the early 1920's from Trabezon, Asia Minor (now Turkey) during the Pontian Genocide. George always remembered the pain his ancestors, as refugees, went through to survive and he continued to exhibit their strength through his unending work ethic and perseverance throughout his entire life. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Constantine and Demetra Pousoulides; three infant children; his Sister, Chrysoula Saouridou; and his Brother, Stefanos Pousoulides. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Magdalene (Karipides) Pousoulides; his son, Dimitrios (Jackie) Pousoulides; his daughter, Dorothea Richards; his sister, Nikki Andreadou and four nieces, Lefki, Tatiana, Demetra, and Liza of Thessaloniki, Greece; and his grandchildren Stefanie Pousoulides, Nigel Richards, and Simon Richards. He was especially proud of his grandchildren whom he adored and loved to talk about. A private service was held at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Rogich officiating. Burial was held at The Henry Warstler Cemetery. We also wish to express a deep gratitude to Father Daniel Rogich for always being there for the spiritual needs of our family and as our true friend. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in George's name to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
