March 2, 1924 – December 7, 2016
Age 92 passed away peacefully at home December 7. Born March 2, 1924 in Canton to the late Moises and Maria Rafailedes. He is also preceded in death by his brother Anastas. He is survived by his wife Lula,daughter Connie of Burleson,Texas, son George Jr.of Avon,Ohio and one sister Faye. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews,Godchildren Philip Delianides of Concord,California,Melanie Kirkos,of Chicago,Illinois,and Stephen Mizeres of Cincinnati. He was a graduate of McKinley High School entering World War II in 1942 and served on the U.S.S. Sailfish under Admiral Nimitz. He returned to Canton in 1946 to marry his best friend and "pal" and was employed by Hall Motor retiring after 35 years. Dad was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church where he was an active member of the Senior Citizens and Men's Club. He worked diligently each year at the food festival making lamb shanks with his friend Pete Pappas and even worked in the kitchen at St.Catherine's in Naples,Florida while he and mom were on vacation visiting Sylvia and Andy. Dad and his best friend Tim Kalenterides created many backdrops over the years for festivities held at the church. Dad and Tim were even awarded a trophy for best set design for their Carnahan Night. Dad loved football and played on the first semi-professional team the Canton Bulldogs. He was an avid follower of the Cleveland Browns but unfortunately did not see them win a Super Bowl. Dad was also past president of the Teamster Retirees serving as their president for many years and was an avid Jimmy Hoffa supporter. Dad will be missed for his sense of humor and his willingness to help others. He loved being kept busy in his younger years whether it was helping his nephew Nick build a barn or camp with nephews Mark and Cossy, Dad also enjoyed spending time in Colorado camping,fishing,and hiking. Dad enjoyed going to the "Island" and watching mom gamble away the children's inheritance. He will be greatly missed by his "Pal" of 70 years. Visitation Monday, December 12 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church 4705 Fairhaven and Tuesday, Dec.13 from 10:00-11:00 am. Funeral at 11:00 with Rev. Dr. Daniel Rogich officiating. Trisagion Service at 7:00 pm Monday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
