Shaheen

G eorge N. "Hogan" Shaheen, age 84, of Canton, passed away July 15 th from complications of Alzheimer's. George was born in Canton, Ohio on February 5, 1931 to the late Nicholas and Afifi Shaheen. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Carl and Fred; brother-in-law Deeb Turk and beloved grandson Matthew Helms. George was an 84 year member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church and a 1949 graduate of McKinley High School. George cherished many friendships from all walks of life and he never knew a stranger. His generosity and kindness to all was boundless. His sense of humor and "story telling" were a source of joy for others. His love of cooking and entertaining led to establishing two successful restaurants; Hogan's and Hogan's Downtowner. He was an excellent cook and his recipes will be passed down through generations. George is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Patricia, and family to celebrate his life; daughters and sons-in-law Robyn and David Caruso and Karen and David Helms; grandchildren, Anthony (Angela), Kimberly, Nicholas, Joshua and MaryKate; great-grandchildren, Reese, Olivia and Mia; sister Marguerite Turk, brother and sister-in-law James and Sylvia Shaheen, sisters-in-law Charlotte Shaheen, Sadie Shaheen, many nieces and nephews and long time close friends Gust Contos and Nick Margaratakis. "Well done good and faithful servant; because thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many; enter into the joy of the Master." Matthew 25:23. The family would like to extend love and gratitude to the staff of Astoria Skilled Nursing and Rehab for their love and devotion to George. Friends may call on Monday, July 20th, from 5 to 8 pm at the Rossi Family Funeral Home and Tuesday from 10 to 10:30 am at church. Trisagion services will be held Monday at 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 20 th at 10:30 am at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. Michael Corbin, assisted by Rev. Fr. Basil Shaheen. Interment will be in Henry Warstler Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. George Church or the Alzheimer's Association of Canton.
