Simionides
April 16, 1931 – September 7, 2014
GEORGE SIMIONIDES, age 83 of Louisville, passed away early Sunday morning after an extended illness. Born in Massillon to the late Efstatheos and Katherine (Stutz) Simionides he was preceded in death by his brother John Simionides. George attended McKinley High School for 2 years and then graduated from Timken Vocational High School in 1950. He joined the Air Force on January 7, 1951, was discharged on January 7, 1955, joined the USMC on May 28, 1955, discharged in 1958, joined the Army National Guard in 1964, and retired on September 1990. In 1991 he joined the Ohio Military Reserve and retired in 1994 as a First Sargent. George was a life member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. At the age of 24 he was a church board member. Vice-president of the Eastern Orthodox Youth Council in 1957, he then became president. He was the Holy Trinity Men's Club president for 10 years, voted Man of the Year and a member of AHEPA #59. George worked for many years at the Holy Trinity church festival, chairing a festival one year. George was a life member of the American Legion Post #44, and a life member of the V.F.W. 3747. He retired from the Timken Company in 1999. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anastasia (Aslanides) Simionides, children; Katie (Fred) Brumfield of Green, OH, George Simionides of Louisville, Nick (Lori) Simionides of Canton, Steve Simionides of North Canton, five grandchildren; Nathan (Alaina) Schott, Ryan Schott, Peter, Noah, Jordan Simionides, great-grandson Isiah Schott, sister Bertha Sifft of Canton and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 6 to 8 pm at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church (4705 Fairhaven Ave. NW) where Trisagion Services will be held at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 am in church with Rev. Dr. Daniel Rogich officiating, calling hours will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. The family would like to thank the Aultman nursing staff for their exceptional care and compassion.
