IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George F.
Vrbanac
June 7, 1914 – September 3, 2014
GEORGE F. VRBANAC age 100, of Canton, passed on September 3, 2014 in Bethany Nursing Home. Born in Lawrenceville (Pittsburgh), Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late George and Margaret (Milisits) Vrbanac. The family soon moved to Canton where his parents operated a grocery store and boarding house in the northeast district-the area formerly known as Stop #9. He attended McKinley High School and later graduated form Duquesne University, where he was the featured Kolo dancer of the renowned Duquesne Tamburitzans. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living "Tammie". His greatest achievement at Duquesne, however, was marrying his college sweetheart, Mary Jane Papriska. George was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, which included serving in the India/Burma Theater during World War II. After the war he and his bride settled in Canton and were both educators in the Canton City Schools. He taught Driver's Education for many years at McKinley High School and used to joke that is how he lost his hair prematurely! George was an avid and accomplished 'do-it-yourselfer' and enjoyed tackling all types of projects, from home remodeling to rebuilding the engine in his car. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Jane, brothers Johnny Vrbanac (infant), Steve "Tip" Vrbanac, Carl Urbanac and John Izotic. Survivors include his sons G. Michael (Joanne) of Newark, Ohio and James (Cassandra Sprung) of Canton/Westerville, Ohio. Also four grandchildren Michael Jon, (Miwa) of Milford, Ohio, Leona of Newark, Ohio, Emily (Tim) Moore of Woodstown, New Jersey, Jason of Fallsburg, Ohio, six great-grandsons, a brother Mike Izotic (Jean) of Santee, California, an several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks for the kindness given to George by his friends at the Aultman Hospital cafeteria through the years, and to the caring staff of Bethany Home and Crossroads Hospice. George was truly a kind and loved gentleman and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (3300 East Sunrise Drive, Tucson, AZ 85718, www.mda.org ). Private services were held at Rossi Family Funeral Home, conducted by George's grandson, Rev. Michael Jon Vrbanac.
