Gust D. Chuchanis, 87, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning,, November 4th, 2014 surrounded with the love of his many children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Known by many as "Deidie", he and his brothers and sisters spent a lifetime bringing families of the Canton community together through food and delicacies. Deidie had many fond memories of working with his father, Anastasios ,"Andy Frank", on his fruit truck. He was a Candy Maker at Peter's Candy and Proprietor of The Chocolate Shoppe in downtown Canton, then Chef and Director of Food Services at Nick's Place The Topp's Chalet Restaurant where he and his family served loyal patrons some of the finest food, memories and hospitality for nearly 40 years. Gust was a Veteran of WWII, a husband, father, grandfather, Godfather, brother, uncle and a friend to many. He loved people and was always there to help those in need. He enjoyed cooking, working in the yard, visiting with friends and spending time with his family, especially during the holidays. He loved to dance and his sense of humor and unconditional love was a gift expressed to all even to the very end. The son of the late Anastasios and Frances Chuchanis, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Moustaris), his sisters, Mary (Michaels), Ann (Peters), Esther (Poulos), Basillia (Zenallis), and brothers, John and Nick Chuchanis. He is survived by his children, Francine Chuchanis , Tonie-Ann Vance, Alexis (James) Wolfe, Alex Chuchanis, Deborah (Roger) Pries and Deidre (Bernard) Lepkowski. Also his grandchildren, Lindsay (Keith) Bush, Jason (Katie) Hummel, Nathaniel and Stephanie Moran and Alec and Anthony Lepkowski along with four beautiful great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews of whom he loved dearly. The family wishes to thank all the staff of the Canton Regency Assisted Living and Crossroads Hospice who so compassionately cared for Gust during his last days. Family and friends will be received from 9 a.m to 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church where Gust was a lifetime member. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating, assisted by Rev. Frs. Demetrios Gardikes, Dean of The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Columbus OH and Joseph Z. DiStefano of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, Monesson, PA . Internment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gust's memory to St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church, at 251 25 ^th St. NW, Canton, Ohio 44709.
