Hal Case Lonas, Sr. died peacefully at home on February 16, 2024. Hal was born on December 1, 1930 to Webster Monroe Lonas and Marybel Case Lonas in Youngstown, Ohio. The family moved to Martin's Ferry, Ohio, and then to Navarre when he was 11 years old. Hal graduated from Navarre High School in 1949; he later graduated from Denison College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1956, after serving two years in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Hal met Mary E. Rentsch during college and the couple was married in 1957. They initially lived in Navarre and moved to Canton after a few years, and have lived in Canton ever since. Hal and Mary recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Together they had two sons, Hal Case Lonas, Jr. and Theodore Michael Lonas who passed in 2005. Hal worked for several years at Nickels Bakery and took a position with the Timken Company in 1957, where he worked until his retirement in 1992. He was an avid gardener and grew vegetables and flowers. He was also a sports fan and followed the ups and downs of Ohio football.

Hal is survived by his wife Mary, son Hal Case (Raquel) Lonas, Jr., brother Webster M. (Patti) Lonas, and sister Barbara Lonas Clancy. He was preceded in death by son Theodore. Hal and Mary have eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received at the Rossi Family Funeral Home on Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home at 12 noon. A private family burial will be held on Friday in West Lawn Cemetery.
