IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helen (Afentul)
Dimos
November 1, 1933 – January 17, 2025
Helen Dimos (Afentul), age 91 of Canton, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 17, 2025. Born on November 1,1933 in Canton, Ohio to the late Stavros and Agape Afentul (Beoglas).
Helen graduated from Timken Vocational High School in the Secretarial program and was known as "laughable, lovable Helen". She then met her future husband George Dimos who enlisted in the Navy. She worked for a short time as a secretary after she graduated. When George returned from the Navy he went back to Canton, Ohio where Helen and George married on July 4, 1954.
She lived in Canton, Ohio and started a family with George and then moved to East Canton, Ohio, moving into their newly built home in 1959. Helen was the center of the household and was an exceptional homemaker. She had many talents, especially baking, providing the many "sweet treats" such as Greek pastries (baklava and many others), pecan rolls and holiday sweet rolls shared by the family on holidays and given to friends. She was very crafty, taking time to sew George's shirts, suits and many needlepoint projects. Throughout the years, she carried on her family "green thumb" by always having a garden and enjoying the harvest to include canning special sauces.
When George retired, they took many trips in the US, sailed on various cruises, and ventured to different countries in Europe. She enjoyed countless hours with George in their shared passion for boating and fishing on West Branch Lake. She also enjoyed multiple trips each year to the Outer Banks with George enjoying time at the ocean.
Helen was a member of the Louisville YMCA, where she and George went daily. She made many friends at the Y and everyone looked forward to her time there, her smiles, laughter and thoughtfulness to others.
She was a dedicated mother, wife and Yia Yia (Grandma). Family was the most important thing to her, enjoying many wonderful times and memories through the years with them. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and Great grandchildren always smiling when she saw her "little ones". Helen was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Canton, Ohio, and was loved by the church community.
She will be missed forever and is now resting in peace with God with her husband George.
Along with her husband George of 69 years of marriage and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers George Afentul (Henrietta) and Constantine "Gust" (Margarita) Afentul.
Helen is survived by her sons Frank (Pam) Dimos and Steve (Kathy) Dimos; six grandchildren George Dimos II(Jennifer), Matthew Dimos (Collette), Timothy Dimos (Aubrey), Philip Dimos (Caitlin), Angela Bertok (Zach), Nicole Durbin (Ted); eight great-grandchildren Cameron, Aria, Lakynn, Gia, Syler, Layla, Owen, and Olivia; as well as many nieces, nephews and her loving sister Bertha Maragakes.
Private funeral services have been held. Interment was in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations, in Helen's name, may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church (4705 Fairhaven Ave. NW Canton, OH 44709).
